On Saturday 11th March 2017, Blind Football was presented to the Futsal world of Berlin. Blind Football was showcased by Victoria 1889 Berlin and LOK Leipzig in between the semi finals and final of the Futsal compeition.

The link between Futsal and Blind Football

The sport of Futsal orginiated in South America and provided the perfect platform and format for the development of a blind variant that we now call today Blind Football. The blind version quickly grew bigger and bigger and subsequently Berlin will play host to the latest edition of the IBSA European Championships in August this year. Edis Veljkovic holds great hope for the up and coming Championships and has a great chance of being selected in the German national team who will line up against 9 other nations at the Anhalter Bahnhof sports ground between 18th to 26th August. The demo game at the BFV Futsal tournament not only drew great attention from the specatators but also from the coaching teams from both teams as to the value of compeitive matches to the Blind Football community.

For most Football and sporting fans, the Blind Football variation is a whole new experience, but the basic rules were explained before the game kicked off. The game itself was a very entertaining 1-1 draw, which fairly reflected the hard work put into the defensive effort by both sides.

We are looking forward to seeing some of the now familiar faces from the Futsal world at the European Championships at Anhalter Bahnhof in August.
